Concordia Of South Hills Review December 12, 2025 Furnishings: Five Stars. Excellent. A nice blend of modern and traditional. The lamps and the pictures are beautiful. The furniture is very nice and well placed. Nice grouping of chairs and tables for socializing. No clutter. Décor is modern and beautiful. Food: Five Stars. Food is excellent. A nice blend of local favorites and classic food. It would be nice to have an afternoon cup of tea or a cookie. Staff: Overworked and tired but friendly and helpful. Understaffed but everyone is nice. A special award should be attributed to Ariel who adds a nice touch to Food service by supplying handmade (by local students) beautiful bibs for the residents. Understaffed, he has done the work of four people when he is alone on duty and he deserves an honorable mention. Excellent promotion material. Cleanliness: Five Stars. I spent 7 weeks as a patient at Concordia of South Hills due to a badly broken ankle. It is an excellent facility. Amazing nurses and aides on every shift. I wish I could name them all here. Very caring and friendly. They always came very quickly when I buzzed for them and asked if I needed anything else. Witty banter and learning about their families and personal interests made me feel at home. Terrific therapy with PT provided by JD and OT provided by Jessica. Their care was invaluable. They made sure my safety was a priority for everyone since I couldn't walk and that I was ready to safely go home. The therapy room boasts a half round wall of windows. It was always a busy place, providing me with not only strength training but also a much needed change of scenery. My inability to put any weight on my left ankle created many obsticals for everyone on staff. They handled it with grace. Mary Beth, our social worker, provided great advice and did everything possible to help my husband and me navigate the Medicare system. Angel is a woman who could make things happen when UPMC messed up my surgery appointment. The activities people, Keith and Jill, were very friendly and offered a great schedule of events to help pass the time. There were therapy dogs who visited the patients every week or two! In all, I felt like the entire staff was my second family. They not only cared for my physical needs, but my emotional needs as well. Concordia was very clean. I had multiple food choices every meal. In addition, there were nice rooms to share a pizza my visitors provided. I just can't say enough except I wish I'd shared my thoughts sooner.

After my grandpa underwent a sudden and serious heart surgery, he spent two weeks in the hospital recovering. When it was time for his rehab facility, Concordia was our only option. We trusted that they would help him, physically and emotionally. Instead they broke our hearts. He was only at Concordia for 24 hours, but the damage in that short time was immense. From the moment he arrived, he felt something was off. He could sense the staff's lack of motivation and care. He was right. Thank God my mom stayed with him that night. He needed to use the bathroom 3 times and the efforts from the staff were lacking. If she hadn’t been there, he would have been left to lay in his own waste, humiliated and helpless. That is neglect. Even during the day, calls for help were left, 20 minutes or more. 20 minutes can be a long time for someone who is elderly and recovering. He was there to get stronger but instead he was left in his wheelchair for most of the day. They ignored the surgeon's orders to keep his feet elevated for circulation. The PT which was the whole point of the stay barely happened. He has gotten more of that at home with his family’s help. He told us the people who handled food didn’t wash or sanitize before touching his food after touching everything else. This is unacceptable in a setting with vulnerable, recovering patients. On top of all this his bed was uncomfortable and the chair he was expected to sit on was sunken and broken. We know not every experience here will be like ours, but we’re also not alone. We have heard many similar stories from other patients’ families. When our loved ones are at their most fragile, they deserve to be in places that feel safe, clean, compassionate, and human. Concordia was none of those things. A beautiful exterior doesn’t guarantee a beautiful interior. We must do better. For anyone who finds themselves relying on a facility. No one should have to go through what my grandpa did. Going forward my suggestion would be to have a physical therapist available from 9am-9pm assessing all new incoming patients. Therefore they can report back to the staff the specific needs of each individual patient. They could benefit from a white board in each room with the names of different nurses/staff helping. Just an overall more personable experience would make worlds of a difference.

My Dad has been in the rehab center for the past 5 weeks after falling in Dairy Queen’s parking lot and shredding his tendons that connect his quad to his knee cap. He cannot say enough good things about everyone who came to help him recovery while he was there. The physical and occupational therapists were so encouraging as he worked to get the “lifting” of his knee working again. The Nurses and Aides who took care of his personal needs while he recovered, were caring and compassionate.

I was a patient at Concordia south hills for the past week. I would like to express how hard working the nurses and the therapists are. They give their full attention to the patients they are dealing with. I found that these people are very compassionate and very dedicated to their jobs. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend some things through the activities office with three activities employees that made that experience great. I was able to meet and talk and laugh with other patients about our experiences. To me, the three most important people were the people in the admissions and social service department. I had the pleasure of meeting each one of them and worked with Mary Beth regularly. If I had any questions about anything, Mary Beth was able to answer it right then and there. She was very knowledgeable about all aspects of Concordia and my care. The other two were very helpful during my stay there as well. I recommend Concordia to any person in need of a rehabilitation stay or looking for a new home.
