My mom has been her for a year and has been doing great. She’s an enormous amount of work and other facilities were about to have her transferred to a nursing home, but I happened to meet Connie while touring a private group home that I was not sure about. She told me Oakey has group home care level and they accept Medicaid. My entire world changed for the better immediately after moving my mom in. The staff has been fantastic, the food was better than many places and she has a private room. It truly has been a blessing from God!! She’s never been happier and I’ve not had it this easy in years. Now about a month or so the care changed. My mom said she waited an hour for someone to answer her call light which has never happened before. She was also late on getting her meds. Neither time was it an emergency but what if it had been. I have a friend whose mom I referred there and she said her favorite CNA -Tiki got let go. I don’t know if it was to cut staff or why. She was literally the only person her mom would let shower her so now my friend is back on shower duty. **You know how stubborn old people can be. Anyway, I guess Connie is no longer the director at Oakey, so as usual… when you find something really good, then someone changes things and messes it all up. I don’t know who took over but Connie gave out her cell to all of us so she could tackle a problem immediately and I know that you won’t find that personal care just anywhere. I’d still highly recommend Oakey over most places though. Hopefully the staffing shortages get corrected soon and I’d love to know who to contact when things are going wrong.

Response from the owner

Dear Miss Angelique, Thank you for your review, our dear director Connie is still our Oakey Director. All directors and staff who related to care always kind and willing to share their personal number to the family (we are lucky to have our team). The new care director is now reaching out to all POA to introduce herself and give her direct contact to you. You shall receive the call soon. Also, we have disciplinary and performance review and training and staff restructuring, we do sad to loss some of our staff and always thankful for all the service and care they provide. We will be continuing to improve our service level for the best of residents and family.

This review is written by Ronna Knox! Tammy Kirby, Memory Care Director at Oakey Assisted Living, was a major disappointment. In my experience, she cannot be entrusted with the level of care and leadership families expect for their loved ones. I found her to be lacking in compassion for both residents and their families. Communication was poor, concerns were not addressed effectively, and there appeared to be little willingness to take responsibility when problems arose. Rather than providing support and understanding during difficult situations, interactions often felt condescending and dismissive toward family members. This only added unnecessary stress during an already challenging time. A Memory Care Director should lead by example through compassion, accountability, professionalism, and strong communication. Based on my experience, Tammy Kirby did not demonstrate these qualities and was not a positive example of effective team leadership. I would not recommend her to families seeking quality memory care leadership for their loved ones. P.S. The day of moms passing Tammy was the only person in the building that did NOT offer any condolences!

Response from the owner

Dear Miss Ronna, please accept our deepest condolences. We are totally understand your situation and family request; therefore we do offer the alternative option together with the opinion and suggestion from the hospice that makes best situation for both our residents and the families moving from Memory Care to Assisted Living side. We are highly apology that we might not able to serve some request as memory care unit has specific rules that much more than assisted Living. We are group that try to have options for all families and resident and we are very grateful that our group can assist your family and highly appreciated you and your family understanding. And we are highly appreciated and thank you for trusting us to take care of mom.

Connie Graves, Care Director at Oakey Assisted Living, is truly an angel. She is compassionate, caring, and always mindful of the needs of every resident. Her patience and dedication are evident in everything she does, and she consistently goes above and beyond to ensure residents are comfortable, respected, and well cared for. Connie's patient care is outstanding. She takes the time to listen, understand concerns, and provide support with genuine kindness and professionalism. Families can have peace of mind knowing their loved ones are in the hands of someone who truly cares. Oakey Assisted Living is fortunate to have Connie on its team. Her commitment to excellence and her heartfelt compassion make a positive difference in the lives of residents and their families every day. Thank you again for the loving care for mom in her final hours!

They do not answer the phone. You can’t leave a message. Once they answered and transferred my call to the memory care unit, only to have my call go unanswered. After so many rings the phone automatically hangs up. This has been going on for over a month. O/10 do not recommend!

Response from the owner

Dear Miss Lynn, thank you for your review and comment, we implemented the new system of the phone and would take this comment seriously to discuss more on the leaving message option. Thank you once again and apology for any inconvenience. I hope you have better experience, if you still facing the unsatisfy experience, please contact our customer experience director, we will ensure we do our best for our residents and family.
