Cherry Blossom Senior Living

Cherry Blossom is an excellent senior living community. It is my home, and the staff and residents are my extended family. The meals are delicious, and the building is light and bright. The activities are varied, interesting, and enjoyable, and I feel so respected and appreciated. The staff is very loving, caring, and attentive. This all makes me feel as if I am on a marvelous vacation every day.

Cherry Blossom has been such a great place to have events at and to live. The staff is amazing with the residents and plan amazing activities and places to go! We love this place!

I don’t have any relatives currently living at Cherry Blossom, however I have attended several community events there, and have always found the staff to be extremely respectful of the residents and community members. The staff is courteous and welcoming to all who participate. It is a place I could see myself residing as I continue to age. I love Cherry Blossom and the residents I spoke to really love living there.

Where to start? They advertise "Memory Care." The majority of the residents on the Assisted Living (AL) side are going to end up on the memory care side of the building. They know this. Yet, there are between 16-23 doors on the AL side that have NO ALARMS, NO MONITORING. Robert Weaver walked out of the building one winter 2024 evening, and NO ONE DISCOVERED HE WAS MISSING UNTIL 9am the next day. HE FROZE TO DEATH. I never saw this in the media, and no one ever contacted me, nor was there a discussion of any changes to avoid a repeat from management. You may be charged for additional levels of care, thinking you are going to get additional services and better care for your loved one. No one could provide me with written explanations/descriptions of what the additional levels of care consisted of or how they ensured they were ever executed. Sure, you walk in, and it looks like the Hilton hotel, but turn the corner and walk down the hallway and it's a very different picture. A functioning, somewhat independent person with dementia will forget to eat or may not get enough fluids in the day. I brought this to their attention for over a year. Their response, "We weigh the residents once a month." Isn't that too late? What good does that do? Intake, if not monitored can and will have an indelible negative impact on a dementia patient. I was visiting my father and noticed his speech was slurred (where was that additional level of care, I paid for so that an aide would check on my dad?). He was hospitalized for six days but he didn't have a stroke. He was dehydrated, kidneys not functioning normally, and he had a UTI. We never took him back to Cherry Blossom. We discovered the Wesley communities, and it was like stepping into the light. Real nurses, schedules, procedures, reports…and they weigh residents DAILY. And employees have longevity. One head nurse, 25 years, the chef 23 years, aides 15 years. That's one clear indicator when assessing an Independent Living/Assisted Living/Memory Care community. My father lived in Cherry Blossom for 2.5 years. I would ask the executive director, Justin if they clean the windows in the resident's apartment? “No,” he said. I paid for Window Genie to come in. Do they clean the carpets in the residents’ apartments? He said they did but could never tell me when it happened or produce a receipt. They used to have air fresheners in the hallways. Gone. Even the simple things went to hell. But they did continue to raise the rent. The executive director should go back to selling vitamins at a GNC. He speaks like a guy who is selling steaks off the side of 270S. No transparency. No honesty. From the décor of the lobby, one thinks this place is great…the level of care must be excellent. The TRUTH…this was the third director in 2.5 years. Shame on me for not escaping sooner. The truth is they are in the business of renting rooms and little else. They do not have enough skilled nurses. They probably do not want to pay for that level of expertise. They currently have several open cases with the Ohio Department of Health. If you have a loved one in need of memory care, do your research. Don’t make the mistake I made.
