Having a place that both my sister and her husband could share a room and be together was the most important focus for finding them care- married 56 years I couldn’t separate them- I’m so grateful for the accommodations and superior care they have received from the Aegis staff and the Brighton Hospice Staff. Everyone communicates with me and I am 1000 miles away in Montana, so I really am grateful for this ongoing support.

When looking for memory care facilities, I spent a good amount of time on the internet doing research, then I visited about 8 places. I cut that down to my top four, then got other family members involved. Aegis had been endorsed by friends as well as being our first choice. The staff is outstanding! It might be a bit more expensive, but for the staff it's a mission, not a paycheck.

Google Review for Aegis Highly Recommended for Memory Care From the moment my sisters and I walked into Aegis, we felt a genuine sense of warmth, compassion, and professionalism. It’s more than just a care facility—it’s a community built on kindness, dignity, and respect. Mark Shaffer, the Residential Facility Manager, truly understands the needs of families with loved ones experiencing memory loss. He also understands the mindset of the individuals themselves and treats them with deep respect by honoring their identities and pasts. For example, he refers to my mom as “Doctor” and engages other residents as “consultants”—whether they were hairdressers, pharmacists, nurses, car dealership owners, or teachers. He encourages his staff to do the same, making residents feel seen and valued. Our family is beyond grateful for the exceptional care our mom has received. The staff are not only highly trained but also deeply empathetic—they treat every resident with dignity and compassion. Team members like Brittany, Blanca, Loki, Lily, Olivia, Molona, Carlos, Nemi, Partro, Princess, Portia, Peter, and Roel (and many more—especially the dedicated night shift staff whose names I haven’t yet learned) have gone above and beyond to ensure that residents are not only safe but also emotionally supported and actively engaged. I’ve witnessed these caregivers gently interacting with my mom—even discussing the family photos on her wall. Watching them encourage her to use the bathroom, wash up, and change clothes—without any force—is a testament to their patience and expertise. These moments bring our family tremendous comfort. The facility is clean, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed with resident safety and comfort in mind. The Daily Activity Program Directors, Jackie and John, are truly OUTSTANDING. They create a full schedule of engaging and meaningful activities that help residents stay mentally and socially active. Every day is thoughtfully planned—music and singing, art, exercise, trivia, flower arranging, and time outdoors all help bring structure and joy to the residents’ lives. Being a dedicated memory care facility, the Aegis team excels at stimulating brain function and involvement in ways that truly matter. Communication with families is also consistently excellent. Mark shared pictures and videos with us—especially during those crucial early weeks—knowing how anxious we were about our mom’s transition. John (Activities Co-Director) also sends regular updates with photos and videos of the events residents are participating in, along with information about upcoming activities. We always feel informed, involved, and supported. There are so many others who make Aegis truly exceptional: Karen and Lydia (RNs); Leticia (Care Director); Phil and Margarita (Chefs); Avery and Austin (Concierges). Everyone works together seamlessly. Shoutout to Phil, who even prepares rice with some sort of protein when my mom isn’t a fan of the main entrée. He takes pride in using fresh (never canned) ingredients, and the flavor reflects that dedication. And a very special shoutout to Avery, who consistently goes well beyond the expected responsibilities of a concierge. He’s not just stationed at the front desk—he’s constantly present, alert, and actively engaged in the daily life of the community. Whether it’s helping a resident find their way, assisting staff with transitions, or offering comforting words to visiting family members, Avery does it all with a calm, caring presence and a genuine smile. His attentiveness, warmth, and initiative speak volumes about his character and commitment—not just to his job, but to the well-being of everyone who walks through Aegis’s doors. Some of the first things our mom said after only a few days were: “This place is fun.” “The people are so nice here.” “I’m glad I ‘chose’ this place to live.” These were her spontaneous thoughts—unsolicited and heartfelt. Choosing Aegis has given us peace of mind and has provided our mom with a quality of life where she is truly cared for and respected.
