My parents have been residents at Yellow Brick House. My mom recently passed and the staff was amazing, both during her transition and with my dad since. The caring and compassion has been phenomenal.

The Yellow Brick House is the most caring, efficient and professional facility. My MIL had stopped eating, walking and talking before she came her. My MIL has been in 2 facilities over the last 6yrs prior to coming here and every other one was very good, but this place has taken more time with her. She has been here for 2 yrs and she is laughing, joking around with the assistants. She's being herself. She isn't walking but she's doing so much more. I love that for her. They treat all the residents with the most patients, so lovingly. They treat them as family. They are so friendly with the families. If it wasn't for Mrs Humera for taking the chance with my MIL I'm not sure where we would be.

My rating is based on almost one year that my wife has spent at the Yellow Brick House. I also have the advantage of comparing it with two different Therapy Centers that my wife has spent some time in because of a blood clot and knee replacement. This happened over the last 14 months. The Yellow Brick House is quieter, cleaner and has a family atmosphere. In the therapy centers my wife was treated sometimes more like a thing than a person. If I needed information it was not always easy to find out who to talk to. This is a problem with company owned businesses. You have to find out who is in charge. The Yellow Brick House is individually owned and I know that Humera is the one always in charge. It is not a Therapy Center, but there are exercise classes each week for those that are able. Also, family members are welcome to come to help their loved ones exercise. I can honestly say that my wife is stronger now than when she first came there. There are also a lot of activities planned for the patients. Is it perfect? Of course not. Problems arise anywhere and any care facility has the opportunity for many. But I know Humera will do her best to fix any that shows up. She will do it with compassion. I did not see a lot of compassion at the 2 Therapy Cecters

The entire YBH staff from the Director, Assistant Director, and the entire staff have been very professional, and knowledgeable in providing prompt healthcare services. Over the past years, they have been consistent in offering their services with a warm smile.

This has been such an utterly painful experience. After everything that’s happening I am saying don’t take your family member here and this place should be definitely closed. I’m seeking criminal charges against individuals in this place. My aunt was neglected. She was less sitting in urine unclothed and unsupervised several times. I started taking pictures by the third bump on our head after a black eye, they could not explain or justified. My aunt during sundowning had become more aggressive and combative. They told me they were going to use medication’s to help. Keep her calm. They first attempt to get me to accept a $273 medication for seven days without providing the generic version which cover was $10 and covers 31 days I had to walk them through this. They also told me to buy her a bed because the first bit and I thought the first bed wouldn’t work, but the thing is is when I bought the bed and spent the money they were they asked me within weeks. I think it was the next week of me buying our next two weeks of buying the bed they asked, could they order a bed from Medi-Cal for her Medicare. It was a lot of reactive and not proactive and I don’t know if it’s nursing staff, but if the nursing staff was charting and monitoring the care, we would know how to provide care for her meaning like if you saw she was having a problem with one bed you should know because you’re the facility and you’re providing the cure within the facility. Let’s just order her a hospital bag and there was a hospital bid in the room so instead of asking me to buy her a new bed a staff member named Stephanie Hawkins that was only two weeks there and within the two weeks of her being there and the 90 something days that my aunt have been there I never come there and my aunt was sitting in urine never but in the two weeks that Stephanie Hawkins started working and taking care of my aunt. I came there. My aunt was sitting in urine and she was combative and aggressive and antagonistic to my aunt. I heard the conversation where she said what you say Raquel speak up don’t whisper now don’t try to not say what you need to say now she was very aggressive, and when I said to her, I would prefer for you to find another method of talking to my aunt. She became even more agitated and argumentative with me. I asked her to remove herself from the room I’m giving a summarize version of it because this is long, but I am going to be filing a report with the Better Business Bureau and requesting a criminal investigation but asked her telling her to leave the room. She told me and I told her for why I don’t want you to ever be around my aunt and I don’t want you to take care of her. I went to the director. I’ve explicitly communicated this to the director with her assistant that sits right across from her I put my request in and let her ask her to ensure that Stephanie Hawkins would not take care of my aunt be near my aunt go in the room that I’m paying for the director told me she would take care of it even told me that she would have told me how two nurses are on that floor and she would have one of them swap a patient with her with my aunt. I wouldn’t know that because I don’t work there. I don’t know how you run your things so she told me all that the next time that I came in for a visit I was met with hostility and disrespect because Sharon I don’t know her last name because even when I asked for names so I can report to the board, the director has refused to give me any information. She refused to give me charts. She refuse to give me incident reports she has refused to give me anything concerning my aunt and I’m the power of attorney and I’m her former caregiver in her Niece.

Response from the owner

Hello Trina, Our team has made every reasonable effort to support your family. We waived the move‑in fee and extended a discounted rate for care services in recognition of the hardship you communicated. Regarding medications, our facility does not dispense or bill for them. Pharmacies bill insurance directly and collect any applicable copayments or deductibles. All medications prescribed were determined by the attending physicians to be necessary for the health and wellbeing of your family. If concerns existed, you had full opportunity to address them directly with the prescribing physician. We also attempted to assist your family in securing a more cost‑effective pharmacy option; however, the pharmacy offering discounted pricing was never contacted. In addition, I prepared and facilitated a benefits letter and coordinated with the physician to sign it, solely to support you and your family. The incident of concern occurred when multiple family members confronted and verbally harassed our care staff in front of residents during mealtime. Male family members used inappropriate and threatening language, including statements indicating they would spit on staff. When the staff member attempted to remove herself from the situation, the family followed her into the parking lot, escalating the matter to the point where law enforcement had to be contacted to ensure her safety. The male family members departed upon the arrival of the police. Video footage of the incident has been provided to the appropriate authorities for further review of the threatening behavior.
