Westminster Woods on Julington Creek

Do not choose Westminster Woods Rapid Recovery Unit if your family member needs reliable short term rehab care. We placed my mother there for rehab after pneumonia, and the experience raised serious safety concerns. Positive: A nurse and a nursing assistant who primarily cared for my mother were very kind, attentive, and compassionate. Her physical and occupational therapists were excellent, and mom liked the food. These are the only reasons for the 2-star rating. Negative: The lab work was definitively incorrect multiple times, and blood was even lost. Her warfarin dose was adjusted based on those faulty results. Staff acknowledged this was an ongoing issue but never made a change. For patients on blood thinners, this is very dangerous. Most alarming, she was sent home missing a critical heart medication she should have been receiving twice daily, with no explanation. Still not sure why and when they stopped giving her this medication - even after asking. Communication was unacceptable, with no proactive updates and repeated calls needed just to get basic information or speak with the medical team. The facility is understaffed, which is especially concerning in a rehab setting where proper staffing for elderly patients is essential. In addition, furnishings and equipment are outdated. Outdated furnishings led to an incident requiring a 5-day hospital stay and an additional 3 weeks in rehab. This facility is disorganized and not safe for rehabilitation and medical care. Families should look elsewhere.

I’ve lived at Westminster on Julington Creek for 2 years. I couldn’t be happier. The staff and my neighbors her can’t be beat. They’re the BEST! There is so much to do I have trouble picking the activities I can have time for.
