My mother is 100 years old and has been a resident at Silverado, Alexandria for about eight months. Prior to that she lived with my wife and me for thirteen years. Over time, she began experiencing symptoms of dementia, and about a year ago she started having occasional falls in our home. After a stay in a rehabilitation facility in 2024, it became clear that our home was no longer a safe environment for her. As we began searching for a memory care facility, we toured a few communities in the Alexandria area. From the moment we visited Silverado, we knew it was the right place for her. Silverado's close proximity to our home is important to our family. Since her admission, every member we have encountered has been professional, compassionate and genuinely attentive to my mother's comfort and well-being. It is reassuring to see such a dedicated team working in a role that is demanding and so important to the residents and their families. Communication with staff is excellent. Staff members reach out when there are recommendations regarding medications or suggestions to improve my mother's mood and overall quality of life. The activities provided at Silverado are engaging, enjoyable and designed to keep the residents mentally stimulated. Special events and holiday gatherings, which often include family and friends, create a warm and welcoming community atmosphere. I would highly recommend Silverado to anyone navigating a similar journey with a loved one.

Steve, thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review, and for trusting Silverado Alexandria Memory Care Community with your mother’s care. We understand how difficult the transition to memory care can be, especially after so many years of caring for your mom at home. It means a great deal to hear that from your very first visit, you felt Silverado was the right place for her. Your kind words about our team’s professionalism, compassion, and attentiveness are truly appreciated. We’re also grateful you highlighted the importance of communication—keeping families informed and involved is a priority for us, and we’re glad that has brought you reassurance. It’s wonderful to hear that your mother is benefiting from our engaging activities and that your family has felt the warmth of our community through events and gatherings. Creating a supportive, connected environment for both residents and their loved ones is at the heart of what we do. Thank you again for your recommendation and for allowing us to be part of your mother’s journey.

I toured several memory care communities for my spouse, and Silverado Alexandria made the number one spot on the list owing to its calm, spaciousness, and cleanliness—not to mention the fact that it came highly recommended by more than one care manager and had positive Google reviews. The number two community was closer to home, an important consideration, but it was also a bit congested and noisy. I was also attracted by the fact that Silverado allows pets, has inclusive pricing, and offers furnished rooms, which number two did not. Moving a loved one into a memory care community (or any kind of care community) is not a fun experience. It can take a while for both the resident and family members to get used to such a major change. Silverado helped make my transition smoother than I expected. After several weeks, I see my spouse happier and healthier than when I was caring for her at home. She has gained weight. Her mobility seems better, helped by in-house physical and occupational therapy as well as daily group exercise. Her speech also seems improved, likely because she now has many more people to interact with, along with group activities that support cognitive health. Family members are always welcome at Silverado and are included in activities, meals, and field trips. The activity staff clearly appreciate family involvement, and these shared experiences are genuinely enjoyable. At one point I told Silverado leadership that “this building has a lot of love in it,” and I still feel that way. The staff are friendly, caring, professional, energetic, and hardworking. I’ve had questions and requests along the way, and the responses have consistently been positive and helpful. In the past, I heard more than once that when a spouse moves into a care community, the family caregiver “gets to just be a spouse again.” At the time I didn’t quite get it, but I do now. Silverado has allowed me to stop doing almost all of the caregiving roles I used to do. And because those roles are being handled in a confident, caring way, time with my spouse is now mostly quality time—just hanging out and enjoying each other’s company.

Thank you, Alaric, for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and heartfelt review. We are truly honored that Silverado Alexandria earned your trust during such an important and emotional decision for you and your spouse. Your reflections on the transition into memory care, and the relief of seeing your spouse happier, healthier, and more engaged, mean so much to our entire team. We’re especially grateful you highlighted the impact of our therapy services, daily activities, and the welcoming environment we strive to create for both residents and families. Knowing that you feel supported and included—and that your time together has become meaningful “quality time”—is exactly what we hope to provide. Your comment that “this building has a lot of love in it” has stayed with us as well. It beautifully captures the heart of our community and the dedication of our caregivers and staff, who work every day to create a calm, compassionate, and supportive home. Thank you again for your trust and kind words. It is a privilege to care for your spouse and to walk alongside your family on this journey.
