Ravenna Assisted living has been an answered prayer for my mother-in-law. She has been a full-time resident here for over two years. Although she now needs 100 percent full assistance in all of her care, she has said she feels like Ravenna is her home on numerous occasions. Her single occupant room is furnished, comfortable and bright. All of the staff are caring and attentive to my mother-in-law and her needs are met. Because I visit at least 4x a week, I see the other residents also receive this level of care too. Many of the staff have been there since she arrived a few years ago. Each month there are so many optional diverse activities like crafts, bingo, birthday and holiday celebrations, movie nights, cultural events and diverse religious studies to meet resident’s needs and preferences. The facility welcomes volunteers. Ravenna is clean and the meals are healthy. There are outside spaces that are welcoming. Any concerns brought to staff and/or manager’s attention by my husband or I are quickly addressed. I highly recommend taking a tour and seeing if Ravenna is a good fit for your loved one in need of care.

Our Uncle has been at Ravenna for a little over a year. He seems to like it there, he sees it as his home. The staff have always been friendly and welcoming to us when we visit. We have always felt comfortable to ask anything, and to get any questions or concerns answered. There has never been a time when we’ve seen them anything but kind to our uncle. Ravenna has a lot of daily activities for their residents to choose from, such as games, art, church services, movies and music/musicians that come in. The facility also has monthly and weekly activities for birthdays, and holidays. They have popcorn and donut days, for the residents to look forward to. Ravenna’s management and caregivers are great! I would highly recommend Ravenna to anyone.

My grandmother lived at this facility for several months while dealing with dementia, in 2022 and 2023. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The staff knew she had dementia, but many interactions suggested they were not adequately trained or equipped to care for residents with cognitive impairment. Rather than using calm redirection and reassurance, the way they handled situations often seemed to increase confusion and distress. One of our biggest concerns was nutrition. During one visit at mealtime, several residents approached us and expressed concern that she was not eating. This was alarming to hear and raised serious questions about whether her food intake was being adequately monitored. The overall atmosphere was also concerning. Many staff members appeared unhappy, disengaged, or annoyed when family members visited. Simple courtesies such as greeting visitors or acknowledging them were often absent, which created an unwelcoming environment. Was a nod or a smile that hard to do? I personally witnessed a staff member respond very rudely to a resident and her daughter when they requested a shower before church services, stating, "We don't have to bathe them until 1 p.m." The interaction lacked compassion and professionalism. I also observed a cook engage with my grandmother in a way that seemed to aggravate her rather than calm or redirect her. She must've had a reason to not like him and would give him dirty looks, which he returned aggressively. It was the white cook, the other Hispanic one was kind and she liked him. One incident that stands out involved staff members sharing cake and ice cream in their break room with the door open. My grandmother was given some ice cream, which was kind, but when she struggled to eat it and it almost fall from her plate, staff laughed at her in front of me. Watching a vulnerable resident be treated this way was heartbreaking. In addition, personal belongings were not well managed. A special sweatshirt labeled with my grandmother's name was lost and never recovered. Every resident deserves dignity, patience, kindness, and attentive care. Based on what I personally witnessed during my visits, I cannot recommend this facility. I believe they need to invest in continuing education for their staff and encourage them to be kind. The owners should have "visitors" go in to observe interactions, so they know what residents and their family members actually experience. One RN stood out, I don't remember his name, but he was tall, thin, and black. He took the time to make her feel loved and she loved him in return. And he was so kind to us.
