We have just had my Mom there a short time. However, the care has been above and beyond. The Memory Care unit is so clean and has the most creative experiences for the patients. It is a home life environment, but safe and secure for Dementia and Alzheimers patients.

I frequently visit my Mom who moved in over a month ago. The staff is so nice and takes such good care of my Mom. I would highly recommend LaurelWoods for family members who need extra care! The price is reasonable, the food is excellent, lots of activities, and the facility is clean and decorated to bring cheerfulness to the residents and visitors. Very happy with our decision to choose LaurelWoods!!

I've visited people in more than a dozen senior living communities over the years, across all types of settings, and Laurelhurst in Columbus, NC stands apart from nearly all of them. What makes that especially remarkable is the context. Columbus is a small, rural community in Polk County with no significant population base to draw from for staffing or resources. Yet Laurelhurst consistently delivers an experience that puts larger, better-resourced communities in more cosmopolitan areas to shame. The staff is genuinely attentive, and it shows in ways that matter. Activities are plentiful and thoughtfully organized. Transportation to medical appointments and shopping is offered generously, which is no small thing for residents who depend on it. The management team navigates an enormous amount with grace, and that tone flows through the entire building. The dining experience surprised me most. White tablecloths go out for the noon meal. Silverware is wrapped in cloth napkins. These are not small gestures in an institutional setting, and whoever made those decisions understood something important about human dignity. The meals themselves are generally fresh, thoughtfully prepared and generous, often with a genuinely good dessert option. Cooking for a full community means the occasional off night is inevitable, and anyone who has spent real time in facilities like this one knows that a missed soup course is not a crisis, it is Tuesday. The consistency here, given the staffing realities of a rural community, is something to be commended rather than nitpicked. Speaking of staffing, anyone who leaves a critical review without accounting for the reality that a small rural operation must prioritize assisted living and memory care residents first, and that a single person taking medical leave can ripple across an entire shift, is not offering a fair critique. Chasing perfection in this environment would require a staffing ratio that would make the costs unmanageable for the families who rely on this place. The value here is genuinely unrivaled. The location is idyllic and more convenient to healthcare and shopping than the rural setting might suggest. It is, without question, a hidden gem. To every person on staff, from the kitchen crew to the maintenance team who always seem to have a kind word and a smile: the families of your residents see you. We see what you work hard every day to accomplish. When someone has a difficult moment or a hard day and you are the one in the room, that is not lost on us. What you do is meaningful work, and the paycheck, while deserved, is nowhere near the full measure of it. My loved one is fortunate to call Laurelhurst home. Our family is grateful beyond what any Google review can properly express.

My dad and his girlfriend moved into the independent living apartments. The staff is so amazing and helpful. The apartment if far nicer than any we have visited in Henderson and Polk county. They had a very bad experience at a place in Hendersonville. But this facility is amazing and so much better than they experienced in the past. And far better than we expected. I am so happy they have been met with open arms and treated so well. The facility is so nicely decorated and clean compared to others we visited. I highly recommend Laurelhurst and LaurelWoods.

Response from the owner

My mother had a nightmare experience at Laurel Woods. We moved her to Laurel Woods to be closer to family. Before accepting her for care, the Wellness Coordinator had a 45 minute video call with the staff at the previous assisted living facility who carefully described and demonstrated how to care for Mom. The move in went smoothly, but when we visited Mom that evening, we found her in soiled clothing trying to get onto the toilet. She had been pressing the call button, but there was no one to be found. When we finally found the aide, she stated that she was unable to get Mom and to the toilet and that there was no one to help. We assisted the aide in changing Mom and got her to bed hoping that this was an unusual event. We then received a call from the Wellness Coordinator stating that Laurel Woods could not provide care for my mother and that they were concerned for her safety. I asked if physical and occupational therapy could be engaged to help with the transition, but was told no. We decided to move Mom back to the facility where she had been well taken care of even though it is over 200 miles away. My wife and I visited multiple times a day until we could move Mom to ensure that she was safe. On the day she moved back, we found that the staff had left her in bed and the dining room was closed so she would not be able to get breakfast. We were very relieved to get her out and back to her previous home. She is now thriving there and getting the care she needs.
