Our reviews are based solely upon our experiences after having placed an application, deposit, and meeting the medical and financial requirements. Hopefully we will post a review after being offered, accept and transition to residency. We spent nearly two years exploring the resources offering comprehensive senior care in San Diego County. Of all the properties we visited and vetted we found The Glen at La Costa met our expectations for future residency. The location offers easy access to diverse medical facilities, religious, dining, and commercial entities. There is easy access to the property with mature manicured landscaping and very available parking. The residential buildings are well maintained. The amenities are diverse with no apparent problem to those of limited mobility. The food was very good with diverse menus in the four dining rooms. We shared many lunches and dinners with residents none of whom displayed voiced any remorse for having chosen The Glen for their residency. We were assigned to a residency counselor Caryn who was very knowledgeable and responsive to our many questions and inquiries. Our choice of future residency at The Glen La Costa was based upon these experiences.

My mother just turned 100 years old and is still in her apartment (independent living) at LCG. California law requires that retirement communities be allowed to move residents to assisted living at their discretion. What I have found as my mother ages is that Residential Health Services (RHS) provides a number of services that help residents to stay in their apartments as long as possible. These services include toenail clipping every other month, changing of hearing aid filters twice per month, transportation to medical appointments, bandaging after surgeries or radiation, and medical management. Medical management is provided at an additional cost, and the flexibility and reliability of this service is quite impressive. My mother and I went to RHS two months ago to learn about it. In order to receive medical management, you agree to the monthly cost, get an updated prescription list from your doctor, and hand over any current prescriptions. Medical management can start immediately. You set a schedule of two hour windows for up to three times per day when a med tech person comes to your apartment and administers your prescription — basically gives you your prescriptions and watches you take them. There was a transition period to determine the best window of time for my mother to get her prescriptions as she takes advantage of the socializing around coffee and pastries that starts every morning after 8 and goes to exercise class three times per week at 10. The med tech people learned that she was most likely to be back at her apartment after 9. There also are provisions for the med tech people to leave the prescription in the apartment if family is visiting and my mother won’t be in her apartment during her scheduled time. I stayed with my mother for part of this month and was able to meet the med tech people who came and found them very cheerful and reliable. They have keys to access the apartment so they need to have a high degree of integrity. What a wonderful service!
