Karolwood Gardens at Norfolk

All summer the residents had no air conditioning. Today it was 45 and I found my mom in a freezing cold room. I reported this and was told the heat had just been fixed. I took my 92 year old mother to the main lobby and set her next to the fireplace to warm up. After a two hour visit I took her back to her room that was still freezing and no heat was coming out of the vent. This is totally unacceptable. Also her main living area was not clean. My mom is prone to pneumonia and I am fearful for her life.

Just moved in my mother and she is very happy there. They also go the room and get her for activities very impressed with them.

DO your loved one, and yourself a favor. Do not fall for Karolwoods tricks and how much they care. I have seen a steady decline in the quality of care from staff and management since July 2023. I can't believe the disrespectful way the staff talks to their elders in that facility when they dont think anyone is around. It's atrocious, to say the least. However, they put on a fake smile when non residents (family) come around a corner, but don't realize they heard what they said. I have read some of the reviews from previous karolwood staff members, and it's clear why the facility is in decline. I encountered minor issues prior to July 2023 with karolwood , but the issues only involved management, and not its staff. The problems seemed to increase afterward, and there were way too many problems to list in one review. If you value your loved one, then please heed my warning. Keep looking for a facility that will treat your loved one with respect they deserve and earned. I would ask any interested parties to do their due diligence and determine if this is a suitable facility, based on your findings. This is for any future karolwood response to my review. I dont need or want your (we care, tell us how to improve), cookie cutter response. Management basics 101. I've been there, done that. Do you want to make a difference? A cousin of ours needed a place to reside after a stay in Rehab. We were able to connect with Greg Beaudin, Marketing Director of Karolwood (and all-around 'nice guy') who was an amazing representative and a tremendous help in providing residence for our cousin. He went above and beyond all expectations in his assistance with getting her room ready, identifying and helping move furniture in and setting everything up. It seems as if Karolwood has been recently renovated and is renewing itself in a very positive fashion. It is a very clean facility. The staff has been extremely friendly and helpful. When we have called for information or assistance, return calls were received very quickly and any action required was handled and confirmed to us in a very expeditious and professional manner. We would highly recommend the facility and would suggest, if you are looking for a residence for a senior relative, friend or yourself, that you consider Karolwood Gardens.
