My brother is my mother's first born child out of seven. I'm number five and the only girl. I've always taken care of him even as a small child tying, buttoning and zipping for him. As a teenager I was in charge of his wardrobe, making sure he always looked good for the ladies šŸ˜‚. Now that our mother is gone I feel more like his mom than his sister. I love him so so much. When he hurts I hurt, when he's happy I'm happy. In the past I have had very bad experiences with several companies. From not showing up but still wanting me to sign off for that day all the way to violence and theft. He used to come home angry, sad and sometimes bruised. l never knew if it was something that happened at the center or on the van. The center he was going to closed during COVID and did not open again. I took it as a sign and just kept him home. Innovative Senior Solutions is actually the first time that I feel comfortable in the fact that he is receiving dignity and respect. He always comes back home with a big smile on his face just the way he left. Although he's non verbal we communicate. He always has good things to say "in his own way" about his day. I am very happy with the service and l everyone from transportation to the people who work directly with him all are extremely professional and nice. The only problem I have is communication. It's very hard to reach anyone. Even when you leave a message it's really up in the air if you're going to get a call back. Now, I've had better experiences with callbacks from the Albany Day Center that he attends whenever I have questions or concerns. But trying to reach someone in corporate is a nightmare. We are on the Structured Family Care program. This is an awesome program that allows a family member to care for their loved one and be compensated. Through this program he is able to go to the Day Center twice a week and I think there are also opportunities for overnight stays. This is great because it gives me a chance to take a break and him a chance to get out in the community and meet people and do things that he wouldn't be doing at home. I feel very comfortable and at ease knowing that he is with people who really seem to love their job. Unfortunately, the compensation for the Structured Family Care program can be quite inconsistent and you're not allowed to have another source of income or go to school while on the program. So when you can't reach someone to find out what's going on, it's a little irritating to say the least. I think they're black and women owned so, hopefully they will get better.
