It's hard to put into words what it means to help an aging relative transition into the next stage of life. Going through this for the first time, I've been struck by the care, compassion, and support Highgate has provided every step of the way. If you've been through this yourself, you know there is no clear path from one stage to the next. It's marked by surprises, uncertainty, frustration, and sometimes anger at how poorly our society often cares for people as they grow old. And then, if you're fortunate enough to find a place like Highgate, there's something you may not expect: relief. I'm not someone who hands out glowing reviews or exaggerated praise, so I hope this is taken for what it is: an honest reflection of my experience. The community is beautiful and impeccably maintained. The food is excellent. But those things, while important, aren't what make Highgate exceptional. What makes Highgate special is the people. They genuinely care about the residents and their families. They know their names, notice the small things, and consistently show up with patience and kindness. I don't know how they do it, but in a place defined by the challenges of aging, the staff remain consistently warm, supportive, and deeply committed to the people they serve. Entrusting someone you love to the care of others is one of the hardest decisions you'll ever make. Highgate has never made me feel like I was handing over that responsibility. Instead, they've made me feel like I gained a team of people who care about my relative almost as much as I do. That's about the highest praise I know how to give.
