Gardens of Germantown

HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!

Our family recently made the difficult decision to remove our mother from The Gardens of Germantown Memory Care. This was not a decision we made lightly. We truly wanted this to be her long-term home, but after months of raising concerns that were never adequately resolved, we felt we could no longer trust that she was receiving the level of care she deserved. To be fair, many of the staff members were kind and caring, and we appreciate the compassion they showed our mother. Our concerns were never about every individual caregiver, they were about the overall consistency and quality of care she received. Some of the issues we experienced included: • Repeated concerns about the quality of personal care. Our mother frequently told us she was being handled too roughly during showers and other personal care activities. • Shower water that was excessively hot, even after we asked that it be adjusted. • Clothing that was not being washed consistently, leaving her without clean clothes. • Staff members appearing distracted or on their phones while residents needed assistance. • Delays in responding when she needed help and concerns about the level of supervision she received. • Repeated conversations with staff and management about our concerns without seeing meaningful or lasting improvement. • Communication that often left us feeling our concerns were heard but not effectively addressed. Ultimately, our family decided that bringing our mother home was the best option. Shortly after leaving the facility, she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. While we cannot say when it developed, it reinforced for us the importance of closely monitoring changes in a resident’s condition and communicating those changes with families. Choosing memory care is one of the hardest decisions a family can make. We sincerely hope our experience encourages improvements so that every resident receives the attentive, compassionate, and dignified care they deserve.
