Fieldstone Memory Care of Olympia

My father was at fieldstone for about 4 months before he died. Yes the facility is pretty, but what I appreciated the most was the way they treated him. Dementia is a difficult disease and while he wasn't all there, in many ways other times he was. They treated him with respect and like a person. They took good care of him, far better than the care he was able to receive at home. The food may not have been piping hot but it was definitely not poor quality. I was very impressed by the meals as someone who grew up with foodie parents. They were able to accommodate him when he became bedridden. I felt they actually cared rather than seeing him as just another chore. The staff was always empathetic to how the rest of the family was dealing with the Dementia as well. I walked in several times with concerns (No appointment) about various things from billing to coordinating care and was able to talk to the people who could make decisions and resolve concerns. They found time despite busy schedules to make sure any concerns were resolved. They went out of their way to do things like bring him lots of ice that he liked for his drinks to shaving him when he asked. They made efforts to find programs he would like to watch on the TV when he could no longer remember how to use the remote. Lots of little things. But it's those little things that really count.
