I am writing to express serious concerns about the conduct of James, a member of the kitchen staff. His behavior in the dining room is unacceptable and is negatively impacting the residents' dining experience. Specifically, James is consistently rude and disrespectful to both residents and staff. His interactions with residents, particularly those with dementia, are demeaning. He speaks to them in a condescending manner, displaying impatience and frustration when they hesitate or need clarification. This behavior is not only unprofessional but also deeply hurtful to our vulnerable residents. It is imperative that immediate action be taken to address James's behavior. This includes providing him with additional training on respectful communication and sensitivity towards individuals with cognitive impairments. If there is no improvement, further disciplinary action may be necessary. Creating a positive and supportive dining environment is crucial for the well-being of our residents, and this requires a kitchen staff that is both skilled and compassionate.
Response from the owner
K G, Thank you for sharing your concerns. We take feedback regarding the experience and dignity of our residents very seriously, particularly for those living with dementia who deserve patience, compassion, and respect in every interaction. After hearing these concerns, our leadership team followed up directly with both the caregiver and family involved to better understand the situation and ensure appropriate support and coaching were in place. We are continuing to reinforce training around communication, empathy, and resident-centered care with our team members. We also appreciate the ongoing trust the resident’s family has placed in our community and their recognition of the care and support they’ve experienced here. Creating a warm, respectful, and supportive dining environment remains extremely important to us, and feedback like this helps us continue improving. Please feel free to reach out to me directly with any additional concerns. Machelle Bergeman, General Manager
