One of the cleanest and most caring facilities I have seen! The administrator, care staff, and nurses are great!

Our family entrusted The Cottages with the care of our mother, expecting compassion, safety, and professionalism. Unfortunately, our experience has raised serious and deeply distressing concerns that we believe others should be aware of before making such an important decision for their loved one. In March, our mother — a vulnerable memory care resident — was discovered nude from the waist down, unsupervised. When we brought this to the facility’s attention, the Director openly admitted that a caregiver had left her that way. However, rather than taking clear responsibility or outlining how it would be prevented in the future, we were told it was simply “a behavior.” To call this incident “a behavior” is not only dismissive, but disturbing — it attempts to shift blame from staff to the resident, rather than addressing a basic dignity and care violation. Later, we discovered something even more serious: in January 2025, the facility administrator unilaterally changed my mother’s code status to DNR in the Medication Administration Record (MAR) — despite her legally signed POST form clearly indicating she was Full Code. This action was made without physician involvement, without family notification, and in complete opposition to our mother’s documented medical directives. It remained this way until a family member discovered the error, not the facility. Had an emergency occurred, our mother may have been denied life-saving treatment because of this unauthorized change. Both incidents reveal a dangerous pattern of poor oversight, administrative overreach, and disregard for residents’ legal and medical rights. While our mother was not physically harmed as a result, the potential consequences were extremely serious, and the emotional toll on our family has been significant. We are sharing this review not out of anger, but out of a sincere desire to warn other families who are seeking ethical, attentive care for their loved ones. No one should have to worry that their parent’s dignity, safety, or end-of-life wishes will be ignored or altered by unqualified individuals. We urge The Cottages to take accountability, review their policies, and ensure that what happened to our mother never happens to another resident again as communication was sparse to say the least. I was never even granted a phone call after requesting. I simply received an email from the DON asking for clarification on what I wanted a phone call about. It was at that point I realized they did not want to talk to me and gave up. Please think twice before trusting this facility (the administrators and DON, caregivers were great and we will miss them ) with your loved one.

Heidi, thank you for your feedback and your appreciation for the great work of our caregivers. The majority of the time we get it right and our residents are getting great care. While we aren't able to discuss resident information via this format due to HIPAA, please be assured that every concern brought by families is investigated and dealt with appropriately--including providing training and refining processes. The Cottages standard is to hear and address family concerns and work to remedy any situation where miscommunication takes place or a mistake occurs. If you do not feel that this happened in your situation, we truly apologize to you and your family and invite you to reach out to the home office to continue the conversation. We truly strive to provide amazing care for our residents.

The Cottages of Meridian has the best staff and really care for their residents. My mother passed away yesterday and had been failing for a few days. It happened so fast. They were amazing! They checked on her every couple of hours and loved my mom. The manager, Heather, made a little snack and water cart and put it in her room for the family. She is alway on top of everything. She does a fabulous job. Very caring. This is the 3rd family member to pass at this facility. My husband’s aunt was there for 1 yr and passed away in June 2018. My dad was there with my mom for just a couple of months and passed in Oct 2023. Now my mom. We know what great care giving they do and appreciate them more than you know.

Hi, Pam. So sorry to hear about your mom but glad we were able to be there for her and your family. We feel very grateful to be able to care for folks in their final hours. It is a rare privilege. Thank you for choosing the Cottages again and again. Making a difference for our residents and their families is what make all our efforts worthwhile. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

My Mom was so well taken care of I could travel without worries knowing she is in great hands. So many beautiful activities including music, dance, outings and games. They quickly figured out mom wanted and demanded milk😂. Staff loved and laughed while providing superb care. Heather manages this facility caring not only for her residents but extends that also to the family. ❤️❤️❤️
