The staff at Camellia place are dedicated to providing good care. The director Sha`Quandria Givens started just before the facility was sold. There were many things that weren’t in place before the change and Shay has diligently worked to improve the level of care and the staff. I really appreciate her commitment and now the current staff to caring for the e residents.

Response from the owner

Thank you for recognizing the dedication of our team! We are especially grateful for your kind words about Shay and the commitment she has shown throughout this period of change. She and the entire team care deeply about our residents and work hard to strengthen the community each day. Your appreciation means so much to us, and we are thankful for your trust and support.

I had a very unpleasant interaction with Tabatha at Camellia Place that I found extremely unprofessional and unnecessarily confrontational from the very beginning. I was inside the building when Tabatha was outside trying to come in. I noticed she had a food cart, so I got up to help her by physically pushing and holding the door open myself. Since the entrance required a fob, I also asked the nurse to stop what she was doing, step away from her med cart, and use her fob to unlock the door so Tabatha could come inside more easily. The nurse unlocked the door and walked away, while I continued holding it open for Tabatha. There was clearly a misunderstanding because I was actually opening the door for her, but she apparently thought she was trying to open it for me instead. When she walked through, she did not acknowledge me at all after I had just gone out of my way to help her, so I simply said, “you’re welcome.” Instead of calmly explaining the misunderstanding or saying she didn’t realize I was opening the door for her, she immediately became visibly upset, confrontational, and started raising her voice. During her outburst, I overheard her saying she thought she was trying to be nice and open the door for me, but because she was yelling, talking fast, and constantly talking over me, she never actually stopped to listen or understand what happened. As she was leaving that building to go to the neighboring building, I still tried to end the interaction respectfully and told her to “have a good day,” but she sarcastically responded, “you try to have a blessed day, funny guy.” After I later began leaving myself, I stopped by the neighboring building where she was to calmly tell her that I felt her behavior was unprofessional and that I did not appreciate being called out of my name. Instead of de-escalating the situation, she became loud again in front of residents/clients, began yelling, talking over me, and followed me out of the building while continuing to raise her voice. She also stated that she is a director, possibly the dietary director, which made the interaction even more disappointing because leadership staff should know how to communicate calmly, professionally, and respectfully during misunderstandings. The entire situation could have been resolved with a simple calm explanation, but instead it escalated because of unnecessary hostility and unprofessional behavior. Residents and guests should be treated respectfully, even during misunderstandings.

Response from the owner

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We take feedback about professionalism and communication seriously, and our leadership team has reviewed this matter. Because this involved a specific interaction and individual team member, we are not able to discuss details publicly. We're grateful for the chance to listen, and we remain committed to a respectful, safe, and supportive environment for everyone in our community.

My grandparents currently live at Camellia Place, and our family has been incredibly pleased with the level of care and attention they receive. Since day 1, the staff has been welcoming, compassionate, and genuinely invested in the well-being of every resident. It’s comforting to know that they are in a place where they are treated with dignity, patience, and respect each day. The community itself is beautiful, The cottage-style layout makes it feel more like a neighborhood than a facility, making my grandparents feel more at home. Excellent food and chefs! Very well-maintained, the common areas are clean and inviting. The staff communicates well with our family, keeping us informed, especially regarding health updates and changes. The activities offered encourage socialization and engagement, which has made a noticeable difference in my grandparents’ mood and overall quality of life. It’s clear that the team truly cares about creating a safe, warm, and supportive environment. Camellia Place has given our family peace of mind. We are grateful to know our grandparents are surrounded by attentive caregivers and a community that feels like home.
