Although a few professionals offer compassionate care, this facility is poorly managed and understaffed. Phone calls go unanswered. Managers unavailable. Possessions go “missing.” No dignity for residents who become nonverbal. Lack of facility maintenance.

My experience with Brookdale Cypress Lake has been extremely disappointing, particularly regarding communication and transparency. When I chose this facility for my 86-year-old mother, one of the deciding factors was that overnight visits by family were allowed. This gave me peace of mind, especially because my mother has cognitive memory issues. After a year of allowing sleepovers, I was suddenly informed by the Executive Director, Chelsea, via email that overnight stays would no longer be permitted. This significant policy change was communicated without any discussion or consideration of how it would affect residents and their families. As my mother’s Medical Power of Attorney, I expect to be informed before medical decisions are made on her behalf. There have been instances where medications were dispensed and testing was performed without my knowledge or prior notification. That has been very concerning and has undermined my confidence in the facility’s communication with families. Throughout these situations, I have found communication from the Executive Director to be lacking. In my experience, Chelsea has not taken ownership of the concerns I have raised, and I have found her customer service to be extremely poor. Rather than working collaboratively to address legitimate concerns, I have felt dismissed and frustrated by the lack of accountability and follow-through. Families place tremendous trust in assisted living communities to care for their loved ones, and clear, proactive communication should be a priority. Because of these ongoing concerns, I am now seriously considering relocating my mother to another assisted living community. That is not a decision I take lightly, but trust, communication, and family involvement are essential when caring for a vulnerable loved one. I encourage anyone considering Brookdale Cypress Lake to ask detailed questions about policies, how changes are communicated, and how they involve Medical Powers of Attorney in healthcare decisions. Unfortunately, my experience has left me disappointed and questioning whether this is the right place for my mother.
