Benchmark at Alexandria

I met with the fabulous Donna Gayle's. My client Julie Church wanted to tour some senior living facilities. The tour was spectacular. The facility has everything a person would need and more. It was our tour guide Donna that made the tour such a joy. She explained to us the vision of Tom Grape and it showed in the curvature of the hallways and all the nooks for you to enjoy a quiet moment or entertain guest. Everyone there was so friendly, from the staff to the residents. It was such a pleasurable tour I didn’t want to leave. Thank you again Donna for such a pleasurable experience.

Last fall, my family and I came to Benchmark for a tour for my dad. We had been to several communities in the area, but Benchmark's apartments, hallways, community living spaces, and amenities were leaps and bounds above the rest. Everyone we met was welcoming, the residents seemed genuinely happy, and it for sure did not feel like an assisted living facility - it is a senior living community with care steps as needed. We stayed for lunch and the food was fantastic. While my dad decided he was not ready to make the leap from his house to an apartment, at that time, when he was ready, we knew exactly where to go. When I reached back out to Benchmark to set up another tour, Donna responded surprisingly quickly (it was a Saturday - I wasn't expecting a response until Monday - she has been fantastic with communicating!) and set a time for that Tuesday. She was warm, welcoming, and quickly got our dad's sense of humor and joined in! There was lots of laughing during our tour. While walking the building, she knew residents' names and the people themselves. Donna showed us a 1 bedroom that ticked all the boxes we were looking for and within a week Dad had a move-in date and our family and Donna had bonded. There are many activities and events on the community calendar: art classes, exercise classes, book clubs, lectures, day trips, etc. And not on the calendar: pick-up card games ("Hand and Foot"? We hadn't heard of that one, but the residents were really enjoying it!), watching tv together in the 1st floor living area, and resident piano concerts (among many other gifts of talents the residents share)! The building has two rooftop outdoor areas with great views. One of them is a "Zen"-type quiet area with a slate wall water feature and the other is more of a gathering, BBQ, watch a game or movie area with comfortable seating. Aside from the building and people, one of the main reasons we chose Benchmark is they have assisted living and memory care. Dad is very independent right now, but it is a comfort knowing that his needs will be met as needed in the same building and space he will be accustomed to. Healthcare services such as OT and PT are available on-site, nurse practitioners are in and available for appointments every week. I'd been told there were nurses' stations, but I didn't even notice they were there, which I loved (and we were told that was intentional). Dad knocked his hand on a chair and needed a band-aid. We were brought to what reminded me of a school nurse's office, a room on the hall, and apparently that was a nurses’ station! There's also a salon that does hair appointments, manicures and pedicures. Dad hasn't even moved in yet, but I am happy to recommend Benchmark for your senior loved one's next home and community.
