Serious warning to families considering Bickford of Battle Creek. My mother stayed at a facility run by Bickford Executive Director Laurel Space, and our family’s experience was deeply distressing due to her mismanagement and behavior. We discovered evidence of physical mistreatment, including scars on her knees that appeared consistent with her being dragged along the hallway and injuries that raised serious concerns about her being struck. We only learned the full extent of what may have happened because an employee eventually found the courage to speak up about concerns involving staff. When we raised these issues with Laurel Space, rather than focusing on our mother’s welfare, acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations, or offering a meaningful apology, the priority appeared to be identifying the employee who had spoken to our family. We were also made to feel that reporting the matter to the authorities was somehow a problem for her personally. She is more concerned about her own job than the safety and welfare of your parents and loved ones. She will cover up and attack you if you try to take action to fix anything. By the comments you can tell this place is already having issues. If Laurel Space is involved in running Bickford of Battle Creek, families should conduct thorough due diligence and ask very direct questions about safeguarding, complaint handling, internal investigations, staff accountability, and protections for whistleblowers. If her management approach is similar to what our family experienced at Vibrant, I would be extremely cautious. This review reflects our family’s experience and concerns. Families should independently investigate the facility, request its inspection and complaint history, and speak with current and former residents’ families before placing a loved one there.

Toured this building while shopping for my In-laws. The staff was awesome, the building smelt good compared some of the other buildings we went to. I look forward to working with them more.

Such a beautiful community with a very welcoming atmosphere. Jordyn, the Family Advocate, was incredibly kind and patient with all of my questions. She was very professional throughout the entire experience and I highly recommend.

Really appreciate the time Jordyn took to show us around. She didn’t rush us and answered every question we had even if they seemed silly. She really took her time to get to know my mom and introducing her to others around the building. Though mom decided to stay with us for now, we know who our first choice will be if mom ever decides living with us is no longer what she wants.
