Christopher Guelbert
For a Christian organization, they do not treat the seniors living there with the respect they deserve. Increasing the cost of independent living by over 100% should be illegal. I wish my mother never had this horrible experience. You all should be ashamed of how you handled this.

Christopher, I am truly sorry to hear about your experience. The relationships and sense of community that have developed at our Ashland campus are deeply valued by all of us, and it saddens us to read that the long-anticipated transition to a continuum of care community has caused distress. In September, with the opening of the new chapel and assisted living facility, a rate increase notice was provided. Starting in November, a $250/month increase goes into effect. This includes a daily meal plan and added services for all independent living residents. In January, the final change aligns costs below other area continuum of care communities and will include utilities. We believe Baptist Homes provides an exceptional value for a care community that includes fully licensed assisted living and skilled nursing care. The changes follow three years of construction that allows Baptist Homes to provide greater levels of care as needs increase. The Baptist Homes board and leadership team prayerfully and carefully reviewed area market rates to ensure that new pricing remained fair, and below market prices while remaining sustainable. These changes were not made lightly, and every effort was made to communicate with residents personally and compassionately. We remain committed to our mission of providing Christlike care for the aging, and we continue to welcome feedback, prayer, and conversation as we navigate these changes together. The current residents living there the last several years have been given a notice that their rent is increasing. My elderly mother's rent is going from $1900 to $3,995 in Independent Living after being told for 5 years that she will have meals, activities, community gatherings, etc. The home did nothing, the residents are the ones who put anything together. Please know that there are more leaving than staying, for they have been betrayed and lied to all of the years. The home has no remorse about breaking up the bond that they have created, and it is absolutely heartbreaking. IF it was possible, the score I would give would be in the negative. Very unfortunate, because 5 years ago, it would have been the highest.

Over the past year, the Ashland campus has undergone a complete transformation from independent senior housing to a fully licensed assisted living and skilled nursing community. This change allows us to provide a greater level of care and support for seniors as their needs increase — but it also requires expanded staffing, meal service, and regulatory compliance, which have significantly increased operational costs.
