I love this Community! The buildings are full of wonderful residents who enjoy life to its fullest. The staff at all levels are kind, friendly, and truly care for the residents as if they are family. The special events, family nights and happy hours are always fun and have great entertainment / musicians. I would highly recommend this community if you are looking for or are interested in senior living!

Denise and her amazing team of care givers have - consistently - demonstrated great professionalism and care. I am grateful that my family member is at American House, and have nothing but praise to write. If you are reading this, you are trying to qualify a location for amazing care - you found a great place, I have no concerns with my family member being a community member.

Response from the owner

Thank you so much for your feedback, Michael! We are honored to serve your family and are happy to hear they are thriving in our community!

I would never recommend American House to anyone. Initially, my mother was in independent living and was very happy. However, after significant staff turnover, the quality of care and overall environment steadily declined. Residents became increasingly unhappy, and things only worsened over time. Following a fall, my mother had to be transferred to assisted living at American House. She is currently under VITAS hospice care, and I cannot say enough good things about the VITAS hospice team. They have been compassionate, attentive, and tremendous throughout this process. My mother is now transitioning at the end of her life, and what occurred at American House is beyond unacceptable. Hospice staff arrived at approximately 10:00 a.m. today and found my mother, who is on continuous oxygen and morphine, still sitting in a recliner wearing the same clothes from the previous day. She, her clothes, and her blanket were soaked in urine. The hospice nurse immediately commented that the room reeked of urine. She was left in the recliner overnight! What makes this even more disturbing is that I had called the night before at 8:10 pm and specifically asked if my mother had been put to bed. I was told that she had not and was assured that "the next shift would do it." Apparently, no one did. This is not simply poor care. In my opinion, this reflects severe neglect of a vulnerable elderly person at one of the most critical stages of life. No family should ever have to discover their loved one in these conditions. I would never, under any circumstances, entrust the care of someone I love to this facility. I am heartbroken and sickened that I was unaware of what was happening until it was too late.

I moved my mom to American House Bonita Springs a year ago from another assisted living facility that was not servicing us as we wanted any more. The transition was bumpy because of her, not the staff! I felt so much more compassion and understanding from the staff than I had felt in any healthcare setting. They were so patient and kind and reachable! From the “sales” staff (she is not at all a sales person… she is a decision support and care strategy partner) to the chief of staff (so kind compassion and responsive) to the ED (help with corporate navigation and education) to the daily aides. All have changed my life and are an extension of my family care plan and have improved the life of my mother. And father! He’s in independent living and his feeling of security and peace has changed his life too. He’s less depressed and making new friends and everyone knows and loves him there as people whoever have met does! American House at Bonita Springs will help you through this season of your life! If you are considering it, I tell you, move there. Your life will improve from peace of mind and connected to care.

I rarely write reviews, but I feel it’s important to share our experience with American House Bonita Springs. Our family had concerns about the care provided and the overall environment. During the time we were there, we noticed frequent turnover in leadership, particularly in nursing, which contributed to inconsistent care. Residents sometimes appeared unkempt, with delayed assistance for personal care and hygiene. There were also instances where call pendants were not answered promptly, and supervision of higher-risk residents felt limited. The Executive Director, Denise, created a work environment that staff described as challenging, and morale among employees appeared low. These issues seemed to affect the quality of care and overall attention residents received. The building had ongoing maintenance and sanitation issues, including occasional odors, pest control visits, and delayed repairs. Some residents appeared to require more care than the assisted living setting could safely provide. Our family ultimately decided to move our loved one to another facility after realizing that the level of care did not match what had been promised during the admission process. We share this review so that families can ask detailed questions and carefully observe the environment and care when choosing a facility for their loved ones.
