Taking care of an aging loved one is tough. It takes its toll on you and your family physically and mentally. Unless you have walked in the shoes of someone who has gone through it, it’s easy to judge and say it’s your responsibility and you just need to tough it out. With immense appreciation for everything our parents have done for us, my family and I took care of our aging parent for over three years to the best of our abilities. As the visits to the ER became almost a weekly event, it became apparent that her health was declining, and she needed 24-hour medical supervision that we simply could not provide any longer. We did not take the situation lightly and took careful and measured steps to ensure that our mom would be at a place where she will be well cared for. After months of research and facility visits, we found an assisted living facility that provided a certain level of autonomy that she desired along with 24-hour supervision needed to ensure her health and safety. This arrangement worked for a while. However, over time our mom’s health situation required more one-on-one care and the assisted living arrangement no longer suffice. This is where Alexandria Residential came into our lives. Before choosing Alexandria Residential, we again spent months researching and visiting board and care facilities. What ultimately convinced us to select Alexandria Residential is their approach to caring for their residents. From the owners Peter and Jo Ann to their staff, it is evident that their core values focused on years of experience as one-on-one caretakers as well as their compassion and genuine care for the unique needs of the individual residents. In the Filipino community there is a term called “kapwa” which in its simplest English translation is the act of recognizing our shared humanity and interacting and treating others with compassion and gratitude. Their Filipino values shine through each and every day. Peter, Jo Ann and their staff work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our mom and doing so with such compassion and patience that are equally important when caring for older people. They also ease our mind by providing regular updates on her status. Rather than a business transaction, the relationship that we have built with Alexandria Residential is more like an extension of our family. Every day, we are thankful to have found Alexandria Residential. It is truly a God send knowing that our mom is being taken cared of with such compassion and genuine care. THIS IS THE BEST HOME FOR ELDERLY CARE!!! WHERE FAMILY MEMBERS FEEL AT HOME AND BELONG AS WELL!! STAFF ARE VERY ACCOMODATING! THE HOUSE IS VERY CLEAN!
